Although the house had been continuously occupied from its original construction in the early 17th Century, a lack of routine maintenance and years of insensitive interventions required full roof, external wall and window repairs as well as a complete internal repair and refurbishment programme including services and environmental upgrades

BiBO’s Director of Heritage acted as project architect over the four year repair programme overseeing a full design team and a team of over 10 specialist consultants. She also acted as contract administrator throughout the on site works.

With a thorough understanding of the significance of the building, a collaborative approach to planning, technical understanding of the most appropriate repair methods and an open dialogue with the client and Local Authority full planning and Listed Building consent were granted. The project became cited by the LA as an exemplar and served as a training platform to cover a range of subjects including, planning, retrofit and heritage skills. We have continued to aid the client on future phases of work, including the recent installation of a ground source heat pumps to enable the estate to function as zero carbon.
